My Review : A Shade of Vampire by Bella Forrest

A Shade of Vampire (A Shade of Vampire, #1)

From Goodreads:

On the evening of Sofia Claremont's seventeenth birthday, she is sucked into a nightmare from which she cannot wake.

A quiet evening walk along a beach brings her face to face with a dangerous pale creature that craves much more than her blood.

She is kidnapped to an island where the sun is eternally forbidden to shine.
An island uncharted by any map and ruled by the most powerful vampire coven on the planet. She wakes here as a slave, a captive in chains.

Sofia's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn when she is the one selected out of hundreds of girls to join the harem of Derek Novak, the dark royal Prince.

Despite his addiction to power and obsessive thirst for her blood, Sofia soon realizes that the safest place on the island is within his quarters, and she must do all within her power to win him over if she is to survive even one more night.

Will she succeed? ...or is she destined to the same fate that all other girls have met at the hands of the Novaks?
                                My Thoughts:

It's been a long while since I  read about a vampire story. Actually, I only read the twilight series. ( and watched the movie too! ) So, that makes me a vampire-loving girl? If it has swoony vampires (Like Edward Cullen?! ) ...well, I guess I am?! And Derek Novak ? Totally, worth checking  it out!

This book is unlike the Twilight Series. Yes there are vampires... covens ... but vampires of the Shade does not sparkle and they don't mingle with us humans. In fact, they hid their selves on the secluded Vale, Shade ... their sanctuary. And  abduct humans and make them their slaves. ( and food! Uh-oh. )

I love the world  Ms Bella Forrest created. It was beautifully described. Imagine, there are Villas , penthouses built on the very topmost of the thickest trees? I was, like Wow! I am always a sucker for beautiful, well described settings. And this is  definitely one of the good ones! And not only that, it was protected by a witch spell.. and it's endless night time at the Vale. (how cool was that?! ) It's eerie and haunting just thinking about it, but I guess it s only fit  because Vampires ... the Novaks , the most powerful vampires lives there.

Seventeen year old Sofia Claremont  life changed when she was kidnapped and held captive by the Shade, the most powerful vampire coven. Both fear and fascination gripped over her as she stepped into a different world  that was carefully hidden .

“How could I have been when, within the span of twenty four hours, I’d gone from high school senior and certified wallflower to captive of the prince of the largest and most powerful coven of our time?”

Not only she was held captive, but she was specially chosen by  the Elusive, powerful Vampire Prince Derek to be his personal slave. Personal slave? What the heck is that?? And what's with these part of Derek's harem?! Of course , I am scared for Sofia! Not only she's part of the harem, ( hello! I got a really nasty idea about that word! Whoa! )  but a personal slave to a vampire Prince?! ...a very hungry and thirsty vampire prince! Can she even survive without ending up on Derek's plate?! ( Literally! )

Sofia is scared but she did not showed it. She tried to be brave and strong. Even when Derek almost killed her, she did not like act like a helpless victim. She even look Derek straight into his eyes ( when his fang is about to sink into her neck!) and said...

“I know an excuse when I hear one. Don’t you dare deceive yourself into believing that you’re the victim, Derek Novak.”

I think it was at that moment that Derek realized that there's something special about Sofia. He found the "humanity" that he once was and will never be.  And Sofia made her feel something. So  he decided to keep her close.

“No other woman – and believe me when I say that I’ve been with many – had the same effect that Sofia Claremont had on me. She was fragile and vulnerable, yet strong and resilient at the same time. She’d only recently entered my life, yet it felt like I’d known her for ages.”

I like the Derek - Sofia moments!  Who would think that the cold, hard , commanding Derek has a soft spot for our dear Sofia?! Yes, like he's overprotective ( Like, Sofia is mine , you can't touch her?!)  ...and kinda feel self-conscious ( really?!! ) around her?  Seriously, if he's not a vampire, I would think he is seriously "crush-ing"  over Sofia!! But do vampires get infatuated  too? Like the "normal" infatuation? Hmmm...

The more time they spent together, the more aware they become of each other. And the more restraints Novak  have to endure not to be tempted  to have a taste of Sofia's sweet blood. And Sofia? It's ironic that she feels safer in the hands of her captor? " Can I trust you, Sofia? ...Can I  trust you, Derek?  More like a rhetorical question?  Can you really trust your captive not to escape? Can you really trust your captor's words ? Love, love, how the author use the "thought - provoking questions".

“I found myself intrigued by Derek – even more so than I was before. He was a paradox, a walking contradiction. How he could perform such a violent act with no hesitation in one moment and be as gentle as he was with me right afterwards, was something that left me completely unnerved.”

I enjoyed reading the rest of the book. It was a page turner . I just stop flipping the pages and a little excited what happens next. So, I was a little bummed out when I found out that it was the end of the book! I was, What??? How on earth???

Yes it's a perfect cliffhanger ( me --not a fan!) ... and left me... with a lot of questions! Uh! This is driving me crazy. The result :   I want to know! I want to know what happens next!!! ....And  the fastest way ? I'll go grab Book 2!

                          I'm giving this book  :
                       3 vivid , interesting stars!
